Scouting America has replaced Youth Protection Training (YPT) with the new Safeguarding Youth Training (SYT), mandatory for all registered volunteers. The 90-minute online course focuses on preventing abuse via active supervision, updated with expert insights. The training must be renewed annually, requires an 80% passing score, and is now live on My.Scouting.org.
Key Updates to Safeguarding Youth Training (SYT):
Mandatory Requirement: All registered adults must complete the new, approximately 90-minute SYT to remain in compliance, replacing the previous YPT training.
Validity and Renewal: The new training course is valid for one year.
Refresher Course: After taking the full training, a 10–15-minute refresher video and test are required annually to recertify.
Implementation Deadline: All leaders must transition to the new SYT prior to May 31, 2026, or when their current YPT expires, whichever comes first.
